RANKING OUR IMPACT
Phycom impacts #2 Zero Hunger most strongly.
Our main goal is to bridge the food gap: heterotrophic microalgae provide a large amount of nutritious food, vital to sustaining and nourishing a healthy world population (FAO). A more balanced diet also improves global health and prevents diseases. It highlights our high impact on #3 Good Health & Well-being.
Heterotrophic algae also redesign conventional food production, and Phycom renews its innovative fermentation process constantly to improve resource efficiency. It shows our intermediate to high impact on #9 Innovation, Industry and Infrastructure. SDG#9 also strongly focuses on inclusive industrialisation and infrastructure. Our current production facility(s) in the Netherlands does not contribute significantly to these goals, but future production facility expansion to developing countries would enhance our impact. As we maximise our output of nutritious food, we minimise our environmental footprint. Our microalgae are, in general, more sustainable than animal-derived protein. It is why we have an intermediate impact on #12 Sustainable Production & Consumption. Lastly, our positive impact on #14 Life below Water and #15 Life on Land is secondary and more minor.
