Algae for animals

Algae by Phycom | better planet, better health

IMPROVING ANIMAL HEALTH

The use of Microalgae in animal feed is a subject of a lot of research. Also, additional research gives a good indication of the functionality of algae in animal feed, such as research on Chlorella affecting the immune system. The in-vitro study performed by the Wageningen UR indicates the effect on the immune system of Chlorella.

In addition, a research project commissioned by Phycom performed by the Wageningen UR details the effects of the use of Phycom’s Algae in poultry feed (results published once public). This research proves that adding just 0,8% of microalgae to feed improves the animal’s health. So, animals need fewer antibiotics by including algae as a powerful additive. 80% of antibiotics produced worldwide are administered to animals we eat; this highlights the importance of the need to reduce antibiotics given to farmed animals to counter the looming problem of antibiotic resistance in people.
