Phycom prepares for growth

Founder and former CEO Erwin Houtzager focuses on technology as CTO, while CFO Willem Kuijsten broadens his role and becomes the new CEO.

Veenendaal, March 25, 2024 — On the 15th anniversary of microalgae producer Phycom, its founder, Erwin Houtzager, transferred executive responsibility to Willem Kuijsten, who has been active as CFO since 2019. The transfer has been officially confirmed by shareholders and the newly appointed Supervisory Board (SB).

Erwin Houtzager explains, “My initial backyard experiments evolved into the development and construction of two facilities for microalgae production, with biotechnology as the driving force. I am proud that Phycom appointed Willem Kuijsten as the new CEO, whose personal qualities align with our ambitions. My collaboration with Willem has been very intensive and fruitful for many years. As CTO, I will continue to work closely with Willem.”

Willem Kuijsten adds, “I see it as a great challenge to take Phycom to the next phase, where development, production, sales, and marketing are the focal points. It is enjoyable to utilize the new SB’s knowledge and expertise fully.”
